More than technology, we provide trust in digital communications. Email is the channel where deals are closed, invoices are sent and confidential documents are exchanged. It is also the main entry point for phishing, spoofing and digital fraud.

From email operator to certified communications platform.
2018
Sooma is founded
Incorporated on 5 September in Matosinhos, with the mission of providing email infrastructure to Portuguese organisations.
2019–2020
Growth
Sooma becomes a leading operator in Portugal. Organisations such as RE/MAX and Chip7 entrust their email to Sooma's infrastructure, and NOS becomes a strategic client.
2021
Legal milestone
Decree-Law No. 12/2021 gives certified electronic communication the same standing as registered mail with acknowledgement of receipt. The DUO project is born.
2022–2023
Certified infrastructure
Infrastructure built on Thales Luna Network HSM 7 HSMs (FIPS 140-2 Level 3), certified with Asseco and Multicert, in compliance with the European eIDAS regulation.
2024
DUO launch
The email and SMS platform with digital certification reaches the market, with three service tiers and its first reference clients. Discover DUO ↗
2024–2026
The country's operators at the same table
Sooma leads and coordinates ED-X, the PRR digital sovereignty project proposed by TICE.PT and built on Gaia-X, the European data infrastructure initiative. It brings NOS, Vodafone, Altice Labs and IP Telecom together in a Data Spaces Test Bed. Discover the initiative →
2025
The Ordem dos Advogados (Portuguese Bar Association) trusts Sooma
Sooma takes over management of the 40,000 mailboxes of the Ordem dos Advogados, an organisation where communications with legal validity are part of everyday work. The migration was completed in 15 days.
2026
Direct sales, alongside our partners
For years, Sooma's infrastructure served organisations exclusively through operators and partners. In 2026 Sooma creates a sales team dedicated to businesses and opens a direct sales channel, alongside the partner channel. Partners remain our preferred channel. Become a Sooma partner →
