Cookie Policy
This notice has been in force since 16 November 2021 · Version: 2.1
We use the minimum cookies needed for the website to work and, with your consent, an analytics tool that we run on our own infrastructure. We do not use advertising cookies, we do not use third-party analytics tools and no browsing data leaves our infrastructure in Portugal.
1. What Cookies Are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website, which allow it to recognise you on future visits and remember your preferences. In addition to cookies, similar technologies may be used, such as the browser's localStorage and sessionStorage.
2. Legal Basis
Cookies strictly necessary for the website to work do not require consent. All others, including functional and analytics cookies, are only set after the user has given consent, under Law no. 41/2004 of 18 August and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR).
Consent is freely given, specific, informed and unambiguous, may be refused without any consequences for browsing and may be withdrawn at any time.
3. Cookies We Use
3.1 Strictly necessary (do not require consent)
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| PHPSESSID | Identifies the visitor's session on the server while browsing | Session |
| wordpress_test_cookie | Checks whether the browser accepts cookies | Session |
| sooma_cookie_consent | Records the cookie preferences expressed by the user, so that consent is not requested again on every visit | 6 months |
| wordpress_logged_in_* · wp-settings-* | Authentication and interface preferences. Only applicable to users logged in to the website's administration, not to visitors | Session to 12 months |
| matomo_sessid (or piwik_sessid) | Created for security reasons, namely preventing CSRF attacks, when the visitor uses the analytics opt-out mechanism available on this page | Session |
3.2 Analytics (require consent)
Website usage statistics are collected using Matomo, an open-source analytics tool that Sooma runs on its own infrastructure, in Portugal. The data is not shared with third parties, does not leave our infrastructure and is not used for advertising or to create user profiles. The IP address is anonymised before being stored.
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _pk_id.* | Distinguishes visitors anonymously, to count visits | 13 months |
| _pk_ses.* | Short-lived session cookie that groups the actions of the same visit | 30 minutes |
| _pk_ref.* | Stores attribution information, that is, the source through which the visitor reached the website | 6 months |
If you refuse analytics cookies, browsing remains fully functional and no individual statistics are collected. For technical security reasons, recording that refusal requires setting a dedicated session cookie, identified in the table in the previous section.
4. What We Do Not Use
For the avoidance of doubt, we expressly declare that the Sooma website does not:
- use advertising or behavioural advertising cookies;
- use analytics tools operated by third parties;
- include social media buttons, pixels or widgets;
- share browsing data with third parties;
- transfer browsing data outside the European Union.
5. Third-Party Content
The website does not embed third-party content that sets cookies on the visitor's device. The fonts used are served from our own infrastructure, so visiting the website does not disclose your IP address to any external entity.
6. Managing Consent
On your first visit, the cookie banner lets you accept, refuse or configure non-essential cookies. Refusing is as easy as accepting.
You can change your preferences at any time using the "Cookie settings" link, available in the footer of every page.
You can also manage or delete cookies directly in your browser settings (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). Blocking strictly necessary cookies may prevent parts of the website from working.

This Policy supplements Sooma's Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions of Use, available at sooma.com.
